Test 2, Day 4. Hagley Oval, Christchurch

English Barmy Army took the Christchurch down with their energy and support. Root and Malan tried to start positively, but with muffled last 6 months of test cricket running in their mind; they were circumspect in their shot-making even though they tried to portray positivity.

Both gave away their wickets after scoring half-centuries, while de Grandhomme helps himself with a 4-fer, this is the first time when two players (Southee and Grandhomme) scores fifties and picks up 4 wickets. Root finally declares England innings for 352 runs for the loss of 9 wickets with a lead of 381.

Root achieves an undesired landmark of scoring 7 half-centuries without converting them into a single century. With 382 runs to win, Kiwis started off in a very guarded manner.

Both the English bowling partners, Anderson and Broad tried to extract the best from the pitch but couldn't succeed in getting a breakthrough. The Kiwi openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham were very canny not to offer any wickets to the two English greats.

Playing and missing has been the definition of Kiwi's opening stand, but thanks to the god's mercy they haven't given it away as the bad light calls off the play yet again.

Key Takeoffs:

Root and Malan half-centuries
de Grandhomme's 4 wicket haul
Latham and Raval resilience against Anderson and Broad

Mini Scoreboard:

Latham: 25* and Raval: 17*
Anderson: 0/9 and Broad: 0/16
England:307/10 and 352/9d and New Zealand: 278/10 and 42/0

With a maximum of 98 overs to be bowled on the final day, will England find a way to level the series or will Newzeland achieve a historic test series win after 19 years? The final day of the test has all the answers. Stay tuned.

Substantial Delhi Daredevils

The team which has seen a lot of ups and downs in terms of their core stability is Delhi Daredevils. With the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Nehra, and Mishra, Delhi started off their campaign in 2008 as one of the favorites to win the championship. However, they just fell short of a couple of steps to clinch the title.

To further strengthen the things next year, Delhi signs in Dirk Nannes the quicky from Australia. Under the leadership of Gambhir DD topped the table and yet again dropped short of their maiden championship title.

From 2010 until 2017, Delhi has faced a lot of criticism for not performing up to their standards. Reaching playoffs only once in a span of 8 years is a record that needs to be flushed down the gutter. 2012, was one of their successful seasons among the last eight, thanks to the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardena, and Ross Taylor.

With Delhi having a capricious core, it was all up to the management to establish a steady and a solid core; and they have …
