The most successful franchise in the history of IPL is the one from our west coast; owned by one of the gigantic conglomerates in India, Mumbai Indians have won the championship thrice in the past decade.
Sachin Sachin Sachin Sachin; still reverberate in my ear, the whole crowd goes bizarre when he comes out to bat in the blue jersey, be it Indian team or Mumbai Indian's team. Featuring from the inaugural edition of IPL, MI has finished 7 times in top 4 and won thrice out of that 7.
The main reason for their success and huge fan base across the country is our very own little master. With the retirement of Sachin, the onus was bequeathed to the Hitman, and the rest was history.
With an eclectic mixture of players from different corners of the world, from experienced to youngsters; MI has all of them. Maintaining the core and building up a team around them was one of their key strategies for success.
MI followed the same strategy in this year's auction as well; but in doing so, did they tick all their boxes? Let's find out.
Team Composition- IPL 2018
The likes of Hitman, Hardik, and Bumrah were retained by the franchise and they also made sure to get their key players like Pollard and Krunal back to their den in the auction.
Thereby making sure that their core remains intact; trust me all these 5 players will feature in their playing eleven.
While Rohit and Evin Lewis are likely to open for MI, the middle order packs a punch with the likes of Hardik, Krunal, Pollard, Ishan, JP, Cutting and many more. It is unlikely to get all of them to feature, but they made sure to have a solid bench strength.
While packing their middle order with most of the all-rounders, few noticeable names other than our fellow Indians are Akila Dhanunjaya and Ben Cutting.
While the glove work will be mostly taken up by Ishan Kishan, they have got Aditya Tare as his backup.
The bowling seems to be onerous as well with the likes of Bumrah, Fizz, Cummins, and McClenaghan. A slight stroke would be the lack of a top quality spinner, they do have the talented young prodigy: Rahul Chahar and also Krunal to spin through few overs.
The overall MI squad looks impenetrable but does hitman have a definitive navigation course to cruise through the opponents and reach their destination of fourth championship title? Time will answer.
MI has their opening encounter today- 7th of April, against their Arch-rivals: the super kings from Chennai.
What do you guys think about this squad of MI? Can they defend their championship?
